Polish Holiday Calendar 2025-2026: How to Plan Long Weekends

5 min. reading
Want to use your vacation days most effectively? The holiday calendar in Poland for 2025-2026 opens excellent opportunities for creating long weekends.
Do you know what’s particularly pleasing? In 2026, there will be only 7 working Sundays out of 52 — this means you’ll have much more free time.
Here’s a specific example: May 1, 2026 (Friday) — Labor Day — an official holiday. And May 3 (Sunday) — Constitution Day — also a non-working day. Take a vacation for just one day — May 2 (Saturday) — and get 3 consecutive days for rest!
Polish schoolchildren also keep up with adults in planning their leisure. Spring break in 2026 will run from April 2 to April 7, and summer vacation will begin on June 27.
An interesting feature: winter holidays are divided into 3 groups of voivodeships — so that not all children rest simultaneously. Clever, isn’t it?
The holiday calendar will help you understand when government institutions, banks, and many businesses will be closed. Most importantly — how to efficiently plan your vacation.
We will tell you about all holidays in Poland for 2025-2026 and show how to turn several vacation days into full-fledged long weekends.

Holidays that fall on Saturday (May 3 and November 1) give the right to additional days off. Employers are required to provide them on other days.
How to Spend Long Weekends?
Poland offers many options for leisure:
- Historical cities: Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw
- Natural parks and reserves
- Mazury lakes in summer
- Zakopane ski resorts in winter
Tip: Book accommodation in advance — during long weekends, prices rise, and availability decreases.
Additional Days Off and Features
Public holidays are only part of the story. There are several important nuances worth knowing.
Trading Sundays
Most Sundays in Poland are non-working days for shops. In 2025, there will be only 7 trading Sundays: January 26, April 13, April 27, June 29, August 31, December 14, and December 21.
On other Sundays, large stores and shopping centers are closed. But there are exceptions:
- Pharmacies
- Gas stations
- Flower kiosks
- Shops at train stations and airports
Tip: Plan your shopping in advance — Sunday shopping in Poland is limited.
School Features
October 14 — Education Day (Dzień Edukacji Narodowej) — a day without classes, but not a nationwide holiday.
School principals can establish additional days off (principal’s days):
- Up to 8 days in primary schools
- Up to 10 days in high schools
They are often tied to official holidays. Holiday on Thursday? Friday might become a day off.
University Vacations
The academic year is divided into two semesters:
- Winter: October-February
- Summer: March-June
Students get a long weekend in late October-early November (All Saints’ Day) and a three-week Christmas break.
What does this mean for you? Check the schedule of stores and educational institutions in advance. This will help avoid unpleasant surprises and plan your affairs more efficiently.
Conclusion
The Polish holiday calendar is a real find for those who know how to plan. Just 4-6 days of vacation can turn into 9-16 days of continuous rest!
It’s especially advantageous to plan vacations in December-January and during May holidays. Remember: holidays falling on Saturday give the right to an additional day off.
And don’t forget about trading Sundays — there are only 7 in a year. Plan your shopping in advance to avoid the awkward situation of closed stores.
Poland awaits you with its castles, mountains, and lakes. In summer — Mazury and Tatras, in winter — the ski slopes of Zakopane. The holiday calendar becomes your assistant for creating unforgettable journeys.
